260 in 2012 DEVOS - Day 207 - Hebrews 3: Jesus > Moses, Hard Hearts
“Therefore…” - on the basis of what the writer just said, that JESUS is supreme over ALL! “…fix your thoughts on Jesus….” Moses was esteemed by the Jews, many felt that he was greater than angels. But here we are reminded that Jesus is the ONLY Great One!
Because the Jews did not want to accept Jesus as the Messiah, the author writes, “See to it, brothers, that none of you has a sinful, unbelieving heart that turns away from the living God.” The sin of unbelief is the greatest sin in the world. It offends God, harms people and it is the only sin that will keep us out of heaven! Most of all, sin DECEIVES! It tricks us into believing things contrary to the Word of God. The author then goes on to use the Israelites as an example of those who hardened their hearts: “Who were they who heard and rebelled? Were they not all those Moses led out of Egypt? And with whom was he angry for forty years? Was it not with those who sinned, whose bodies fell in the desert? And to whom did God swear that they would never enter his rest if not to those who disobeyed? So we see that they were not able to enter, because of their unbelief.”
SO WHAT?!
*Who are you tempted to hold higher than you ought? A parent? Sports figure? Actor? Pastor? Teacher? Coach? Never forget, they are all sinners. YES, we are to honor people and thank them for their impact in our lives. But we are to be careful to hold them higher that our Lord!
*How is your heart these days? Do you ever get hardened by stuff in this life? Have you ever been hardened towards the things of God? It is best to regularly go to God, confessing our sins and seeking Him so that our hearts won’t be hardened! Why not take some time right now to do this!?
