Chapter 22:
Again – this chapter ROCKS!
Kinda’ covered verses 1-5 in the previous devo, so we’ll pick up with verse 6.
John has been obediently penning (or whatever they used) everything he has been told. Everything is “trustworthy and true” and we are blessed if we obey God’s word! In amazement, john falls at his feet to worship, but even the angel knows he’s not the worthy one, “Don’t do that! I am a fellow servant….Worship God!” Immediate obedience was followed by immediate worship.
Then we read this incredible promise: “Look, I am coming soon! My reward is with me, and I will give to each person according to what they have done.” Amazing to think that God will reward our faithfulness. And a sad reality to think some will not believe.
We then read of God’s final invitation, “The Spirit and the bride say, “Come!” And let the one who hears say, “Come!” Let the one who is thirsty come; and let the one who wishes take the free gift of the water of life.” God is still wishing that none perish but all come to repentance (2 Peter 3:9).
God’s final book of “HIS-story” concludes with a warning, “I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this scroll: If anyone adds anything to them, God will add to that person the plagues described in this scroll. And if anyone takes words away from this scroll of prophecy, God will take away from that person any share in the tree of life and in the Holy City, which are described in this scroll.” Jesus IS coming back……and our response is to echo the words here of the apostle John, “Amen. Come, Lord Jesus” And it’s all of grace!!!!
SO WHAT?!
*Scripture is clear that believers will not face judgment for their sins – which is AWESOME! But it is also clear we will be rewarded “for what we have done.” How are you & I presently involved in the good work God has for you (Ephesians 2:10)?
*The final warning reminds us how carefully we are to treat God’s Word, the Bible. It’s can be easy to read verses, translate it into our own lives and then take that translation and make IT God’s word. Be careful – from what I read in 18-19, that would NOT be good to do! Let’s say and teach what the Bible says and teaches and let’s not say and teach what it doesn’t! Which implies, we need to be in it!~
* I am sooooooo grateful for the privilege it has been to write devos for these 260 chapters! My prayer was that God would draw me closer to Him and He has answered. I hope they have been a blessing to those who have read them as well. More importantly, I hope reading the new testament has been a blessing. God’s words are living and active, mine are not!
