Chapter 7:
The theme from the book of John located in John 20:31 continues to be proclaimed: Jesus is God! Jesus’ brothers (James & Jude) wan Him to “put on a show” at the annual feast but once again, it’s not the right timing so Jesus declines. They go to the feast and Jesus secretly shows up anyway and begins teaching. “My teaching is not my own. It comes from the one who sent me. Anyone who chooses to do the will of God will find out whether my teaching comes from God or whether I speak on my own. Whoever speaks on their own does so to gain personal glory, but he who seeks the glory of the one who sent him is a man of truth; there is nothing false about him. Has not Moses given you the law? Yet not one of you keeps the law. Why are you trying to kill me?” Jesus is constantly exposing hearts, because hearts need changing!~
All of this brings a division as to who Jesus is. Some said he was a prophet. Some said He was the Messiah. Others were un sure, “How can the Messiah come from Galilee?” And some wanted to seize Him, but because it wasn’t His time they couldn’t – Ha!
Finally we see the unbelief of the religious leaders in 45-53. No one was willing to agree who Jesus was (and IS) because by agreeing with what He said would go against all Jewish tradition and knowledge.
SO WHAT?!
*What is your motivation for following Jesus? The fear of the Lord? The things He does for us? My friends are a part of a church? It’s good to check our motives!
*What has Jesus exposed in you heart recently? An improper thought? A wrong attitude? Anger issues? Whatever it might be, lets humbly admit our issue, seek forgiveness and let His Holy Spirit transform us!
